Warner Bros Hit A Box Office Record In 2018

Image
Warner Bros is the real star that rose in 2018. Disney seems to own just about everything at this point, so it's no surprise when one of its brands tops the box office. But Warner Bros deserves a hat tip for still managing to set a new box office record during the same year as Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Incredibles 2. Warner Bros's worldwide box office passed $5.6 billion in ticket sales, Variety reports, that was its biggest year to date, and up 9% from 2017. Much of the credit for that is being given to Aquaman -- DCEU's top movie worldwide, and it's still going strong into 2019 -- but also The Meg, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Ready Player One. More on their respective contributions in a minute. That worldwide total is from a combination of roughly $1.95 billion domestic and $3.6 billion foreign. The foreign box office marked a jump of 17% from 2017, topping the previous record of $3.17 billion from 2014. So the big story...

Aquaman Officialy Become The Biggest DC Extended Universe Movie

Image
Aquaman, the much-mocked underdog superhero, long dissed as the one who merely “talks to fish,” leads the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe movie at the global box office. Aquaman has just passed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in worldwide ticket sales. As of Saturday, the Warner Bros. release has grossed $887 million since its release last month, edging out Batman v Superman‘s cumulative $873 million. The King of Atlantis has been helped enormously by overseas interest, with international sales responsible for 75 percent of the films revenue — a significantly greater percentage than the other DCEU titles (China leads the way, where Aquaman has grossed a whopping $279 million to become the country’s second-biggest superhero film of all time behind Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, if you only look at international popularity, not domestic, Aquaman is the biggest DC Universe movie — not just the Extended Universe — so even more popular than The Dark Knight overseas. ...

Spoiled Endgame Title In Age Of Ultron Interview

Image
Robert Downey Jr may have spoiled the Avengers: Endgame title in a previous interview for Age of Ultron. There has been a lot of retro-analysis going on around the internet ever since the title for the upcoming Avengers flick, Avengers: Endgame, filled our phone screens at the end of the film’s first trailer. People have gone back and pointed out the few times that the term “end game” has been spoken by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in previous films, leaving many to speculate that “Endgame” has been the planned subtitle for the upcoming project for some time. Well, here is more fuel for that fire. In a long-forgotten interview for Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr, also threw out the phrase “end game.” The superstar was referring to his character’s motivation behind building Ultron in the second Avengers film: “He’s working on a system that will make it so that the Avengers really don’t have to do what they’ve been doing all along, which purportedly sho...

Popular films lead the race for Oscars best picture

Image
Its a brand new year, that means its time for new awards season in Hollywood, as the journey to February 24’s Oscars ceremony ramps up this week with the first high-profile pit-stop for contenders SUNDAY’S GOLDEN GLOBAlS AWARDS. Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born continues to be the one to beat in the Best Picture race, with five total Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture (Drama), but a Star is born also leads a pack not often seen competing for Best Picture in recent years popular films. Oscar voters can nominate up to 10 films for Best Picture (although they’ve only nominated the full 10 twice, in 2010 and 2011), and typically bigger blockbuster fare fails to crack the race. This leaves a disconnect between Hollywood’s top-grossing movies, that audiences can see easily, and the independent and prestige studio films that have smaller theatrical releases but tend to be favored by critics and voters. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences attempted to rectify ...

Aquaman Past Wonder Woman ?

Image
Aquaman has officially passed Wonder Woman at the box office. In less than a month, the DC universe has truly found its savior. Arthur Curry had won the hearts of fans as the King of Atlantis, but the character hadn't truly had the chance to shine in a proper way until now. And audiences are really taking to it, as Aquaman continues to rake in the cash all over the world. With the New Year's Day box office factored in, Aquaman has now grossed $216.3 million domestically and $606.5 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total of $822.9 million. That puts it just ahead of Wonder Woman, which managed to bring in $821.8 million last year. However, director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman made quite a bit more domestically, as the movie grossed $412.6 million here in the states. The fact that, Aquaman is still the lowest grossing movie in the current DC franchise domestically, still sitting behind Justice League ($229 million). That important distinction aside, Aquaman is on...

Annabelle 3 Will Feels Like A New Conjuring Film

Image
What started with The Conjuring in 2013 has grown organically into a connected universe with spinoffs of the mainline films that are now spawning sequels of their own. While we'll probably have to wait until 2020 for The Conjuring 3, the next sequel in The Conjuring universe arrives this year in the form of Annabelle 3. Unlike the other spinoffs to date in this universe, Annabelle 3 will actually feel like a new Conjuring film according to producer James Wan, who said: "I think by the very nature of Patrick and Vera being in it, I would say somewhat, yes, because in Annabelle 3 the doll comes back to the Warren's home. It finally comes to the Warren's home so by the very nature of it actually being in the home and the story takes place in the Warren's home, it feels more like a Conjuring film in that respect". It sounds like the very nature of the story in Annabelle 3 will make it feel like a new Conjuring film. Prior to Annabelle 3, Patrick Wilson an...

Brian May : No One Thought Bohemian Rhapsody Would Be A Huge Hit

Image
Biopics are a tried and true film genre, especially during the annual awards season. They allow a deep dive into a celebrity's life, and one lucky actor to attempt to truly immerse themselves in a real-life figure. That was exactly the case for Bohemian Rhapsody and Rami Malek, as Bryan Singer's movie has had a massively successful run in theaters. Bohemian Rhapsody just keeps making more money at the box office, and has Awards buzz surrounding it-- including early Golden Globe and Screens Actor Guild nominations. But Queen band member Brian May wasn't always convinced it was going to make so much money. As he recently revealed: "Nobody expected it to be that huge. We thought it would do quite well. We didn't expect it to be a record-breaking blockbuster... What an incredible performance [Malek] gives. He just became Freddie". Not even Queen musician himself was sure about the success of Bohemian Rhapsody. But just as the titular song became an ...

New Shazam Trailer Coming This Month?

Image
As DC moves into 2019, their next big theatrical feature -- the David Sandberg-directed Shazam! -- is only about three months away, and it sounds like fans might be getting a new trailer to ring in 2019 with, according to Daniel RPK, a reliable source of such information. Shazam! follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a young foster kid who is given superpowers by a wizard (Djmon Honsou). Once Billy says the magic phrase "Shazam!", he has the ability to transform into a superpowered adult (Zachary Levi). He claims that the release date for the second trailer will be January 19 which, if true, likely means that it will be attached to prints of Glass, M. Night Shyamalan's superhero opus, releasing the next day in theaters. So far, fans have been excited by the energy that the first trailer and subsequent teaser images and footage has brought, with a lighter energy and lower stakes than most of the universe-shaking DC movies to date. “I can’t tell you much, as you c...

DC Comics Movies Scheduled To Be Released In The Next 2 Years

Image
DC might be playing second fiddle to Marvel on the feature film side while dominating the TV airwaves, but that does not mean that there is not plenty to be excited about if you are a fan of DC's live-action or animated movies. Over the course of the next two calendar years, DC will release not just more TV shows than most fans can even count, but at present, at least four live-action feature films and four animated movies as well. The DC Universe animated features, which generally come out a few times a year, are only scheduled through 2019, but that is enough to account for four movies...while DC's live-action offerings will continue to be pretty eccentric on the heels of Aquaman's success, with some less-recognizable brands being represented on the big screen...and even the ones who are familiar to casual fans will be spun in a different way. What's on the calendar for DC and Warner Bros.? Well, we've got you covered...! Reign of the Supermen Shaz...

Ryan Reynolds Shares Behind-The-Scenes Photo Of Detective Pikachu

Image
While there was initially quite a bit of skepticism surrounding Warner Bros' Detective Pikachu release, when its trailer hit, many fans found themselves unexpectedly excited for the first live-action Pokémon movie. Much of Detective Pikachu's early zing with audiences has been thanks to Ryan Reynolds' voice role as the iconic adorable yellow Pokémon, alongside Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's breakout star Justice Smith. Now Reynolds' is sharing a little behind-the-scenes look at his how he became the furry detective on screen. Take a look: Ryan Reynolds recently shared the image on his Instagram, with the caption "Pika-dots." Looking at the split-screen picture, we can see a bit of the Deadpool actor in Pikachu as they both share deep brown eyes and a familiar smirk. The image shows that the famed Pokémon will have a bit more of Reynolds in him besides his voice, with the help of motion capture technology. This definitely makes us curious about...
